ABU Secretariat

The ABU Secretariat is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The present staff is 35.
Secretary-General
Dr Javad Mottaghi
Chief Executive of the ABU

The Secretariat is headed by the Secretary-General. Dr Javad Mottaghi, who is the chief executive of the ABU, is responsible for all of the Union's activities. He reports to the Administrative Council and the General Assembly.

The Secretary-General's office handles administration, staffing, public and international relations, finance and information systems.

The Secretariat has four other departments: ABU Programming, ABU Technology, ABU Sports and Asiavision, each headed by a director who reports directly to the Secretary-General.

Programme Department
Takeshi Doki
Director ABU Programming

Mr Doki is Japanese and was previously a Senior Producer at the Strategic Planning Division of the International Planning & Broadcasting Department of Japan’s public broadcaster NHK. He has had 27 years of experience in producing news programmes.

Technical Department
Sharad Sadhu
Director ABU Technology

Mr Sadhu is an Indian national. He was formerly GM of Broadcast & Satellite Broadcast Engineering Division, TCIL, New Delhi. He joined the ABU in 1993.

Se-Deuk Ahn
Director ABU News

Sedrik, a Korean national, joined the ABU in January 2012. Previously, he was a Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs and National Security News Team at KBS

Sports Department
John Barton
Director ABU Sports

An Australian, John has worked for the ABC and all three Australian commercial networks, TCS-Singapore, as well as MTV and MBC in Sri Lanka. He joined the ABU in March 2002.
