Spectrum events

11-14 June 2007, Kuala Lumpur

11 June: Broadcasters - Regulators' Forum (first half day)
11-13 June: ABU Preparatory Seminar on WRC-07 (starting at 2 PM)
14 June: Finalising Draft ABU Proposals for WRC-07

The ABU Preparatory Seminar on WRC-07 was held from 11 to 14 June 2007, in the city of Petaling Jaya (located adjacent to Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia.

This four-day composite event exposed participants to WRC-07 issues, their implication and the studies being carried out.

ITU WRC-07 Conference
The ITU's World Radiocommunication Conference 2007 (WRC-07) in October 2007 will decide upon many spectrum matters which have consequences on broadcasting and other services, including shortwave radio, TV and satellite TV broadcasting. The conference will also consider whether agenda items on ENG-EFP link spectrum and 21 GHz BSS spectrum should be included in the agenda for WRC-11.

Preparations By Broadcasters
As WRC-07 decisions could be crucial to the growth of radio and television in the Asia-Pacific region, it would be highly advantageous for broadcasters to make thorough preparations and effectively participate in WRC-07. The ABU Preparatory Seminar will help in this process by enhancing the understanding of the issues. The ABU position on WRC-07 will also be developed at this seminar.

Programme
The composite event comprised three parts:

  • 11 June: Broadcasters - Regulators' Forum (first half day)
  • 11-13 June: ABU Preparatory Seminar on WRC-07 (starting at 2 PM)
  • 14 June: Finalising Draft ABU Proposals for WRC-07 (ABU members only, full day)

Participation
Apart from executives dealing with spectrum in our members, participants included those from other segments of the industry in the region and some others. Representatives of six national spectrum regulators also attended the events for the first three days to enhance the value proposition.

We had 22 eminent speakers from among the ABU members, regulators and international organizations such as the ITU and the Asia Pacific Telecommunity. The seminar was conducted in an interactive manner and the participants made significant contributions to the proceedings
